Good Day Sacramento Visits Sierra College Aquatics Complex
On Sunday, September 6, Good Day Sacramento reporter Ashley Williams (aka, Aqua Ashley) headed out to the Sierra College Aquatics Complex for some basic swimming and water polo instruction. She may not have known that she was being coached by two highly-rated coaches in Chris Breitbart (swimming) and Bruce Hastie (water polo). She did learn that neither sport is easy.
Sierra College is the home of the top-ranked Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving and Water Polo teams, the Rocklin Aquatics Masters Swimming (RAMS), Sacramento Water Polo, and the upstart Wolverine Aquatics Club (WAC)... With top-notch coaching from Scott Decker, Bruce Hastie, Chris Breitbart, and Roland King (Diving), athletes from all over are heading to Sierra College for some of the finest coaching in the area.
For her first lesson, Coach Breitbart offered Aqua Ashley some last-minute instructions in getting ready for an Alcatraz Swim- there are several Alcatraz swims throughout the year that range from 1.2 miles to 3 miles.... then she jumped off the 3 meter board into the middle of a water polo practice to get some pointers on treading water ("egg-beater"), passing the ball, and scoring!!
The Sierra College Aquatics Complex consists of two pools that are used non-stop from 5:00 AM until 8:30 PM almost every day of the week... with Sierra College P.E. classes, college athletics, diving classes, and swimming for both adults (RAMS) and younger athletes (WAC), there is something for everyone in the pool.
