RETIRED AIR FORCE OFFICER MARK KLANG ANNOUNCES HIS CANDIDACY FOR THE ROCKLIN CITY COUNCIL
Rocklin – On August 10, 2010 Mark Klang officially entered the race for the Rocklin City Council. Mark served 22 years in the Air Force assigned to the B-52 and F-4. His final 6 years were spent on the Air Staff at the Pentagon, in Washington DC.
Mark was assigned to manage a multi-million dollar reconnaissance program for the F-16. “I know what it takes to be responsible for spending our tax dollars. I worked very hard to make sure the war fighter was getting the best equipment possible while protecting the taxpayer,” Klang said.
Klang and his family have lived in Rocklin since 1994. Klang was elected to the Rocklin School Board in 2000 and served until 2004. Major policies that he championed are still being followed today. Mark has coached his 2 daughters in soccer, T-ball, girls fast pitch softball, and AAU basketball. He is coaching his younger daughter’s soccer team this season and will coach her basketball team later this winter.
“Rocklin is a great place to live and raise our families. In the past the city council has done a good job in making the right decisions for our city. However, like Congress, a majority of the council has been in office too long and believes they no longer have to answer to the voters. We all have read about the part-time salaries of many of the city management. The city manager and police chief are working back part-time for $137,000 and $118,000, respectively. During the last 2 years the city council has spent our tax dollars by contributing almost $100,000 to the police chief’s pension. There are other managers that are receiving similar compensation packages. If elected, I will put an end to this unethical practice,” Klang said.
“Rocklin is an outstanding community. But we are at a critical time in our city’s history. We have a reputation of not being business friendly. We cannot blame the economy for all the empty storefronts in our city. We have a council that has talked about a downtown for over 15 years and has done very little.
I want our city to be a destination and not just a stop for gas as people drive up to Lake Tahoe and Reno. I have a plan to establish our downtown as a destination. I have a plan to increase revenue for the city without raising your taxes.
I am the only candidate in the race that has demonstrated fiscal responsibility with your tax dollars and one that is not afraid to stand up to the special interests.
I believe this race will decide if the voters want more of the same; higher taxes, excessive pay and enormous pension benefits for city management or a city where you will have a city council that will represent the citizens of our fine community,” said Klang
